Hostel
Sleeping with us will help our community
Thanks to generous donations from Europe, but especially from Switzerland, we were able to complete the upper floor of the orphanage in 2019. Four small double rooms have been available there since December 2019. Our hostel is small but fine. We do not want mass tourism and we want to take care of our guests and volunteers individually.
100% of the hostel's income goes to the orphanage.
The current monthly costs in the orphanage consist of the purchase of food, the cost of water and electricity and the wages of the employees in the orphanage and hostel. We don't just want to help the children and their families. We also have a responsibility towards the employees. They support their own families with their wages, which they receive from us. Money is also needed for hygiene products and repairs. Various renovations such as the enlargement of the kitchen and a beautiful garden are planned.
Furthermore, we have several plans for the future: we would like to buy a piece of land on which we can build our own school and boarding school. A small care clinic would also be planned.
Good education and medical care is important and unfortunately not possible for the whole population at the moment.
You can see here other ways to help us grow and get strong for the future.
Pole pole (slowly, slowly) is called in Africa. This is how we go step by step.
The rooms
Rooms can be rented to couples. But it can also be exciting to share a room with someone stranger.
The rooms are bright and friendly. There is electricity in each room and the bathroom is integrated into two of the four rooms. The third and fourth rooms use the bathroom in the hallway. Bath towels and hand towels are included in the room rate as well as breakfast. Wifi is available free of charge in our hostel. Our maid Zainab will be happy to spoil guests with a varied breakfast. Dinner can be ordered on request.
The rooms are rented for individual nights, or longer. This is especially appropriate if you are committed to our project, the orphanage or another social project in the area
From the terrace you can enjoy an indescribably magnificent view of Mount Meru. This is the second highest mountain in Tanzania with a proud 4800 meters above sea level. If you walk a little bit and the weather suits, you can even see the Kilimanjaro.
On request, guests can be picked up at the airport.
Activities and services around
If you decide to stay longer, it makes sense to accept our offer of a guided tour on the first day. In the process, you get to know Arusha. The city can be reached by car in about 10 minutes. We like to show where the local shops are, the markets with their diverse offer of all kinds of fresh foods such as vegetables, salads and fruits. Also exciting is the large supermarket "Shoppers" in which you can even find European food. Of course, we travel to the city by local transport, so that everyone can find their way around later and explore the city alone. There are also some cafes and good restaurants of European standard. Those who love to taste local food will also get their money's worth here.
We are happy to organize excursions in the surrounding area on weekends. On site we have a wide selection of bathing areas to waterfall viewing or culture. Just like it's popular.
If you want to experience the nightlife in Africa, we are happy to accompany you to the trendy dance clubs of Arusha. There are various restaurants, most of which are open-air restaurants where you can have fun to your heart's content. It is always fascinating how the Africans like to dance and you get really infected by it. You can't help it.
Travel and discover
On weekends we also offer excursions to the surrounding area around Arusha.
If you have a little more time, it is also worth a safari to one of the numerous national parks in northern Tanzania: Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara or Ngorongoro Crater, as well as the Serengeti are just a few hours' drive away. Also an ascent to the "roof of Africa", the Kilimanjaro is feasible, if you bring enough time for the preparation. For a variety of safaris, we work with a local safari provider who puts together a tour with one or more nights, according to your wishes and measures.
